About RLive

Radio Live allows people to discover, follow and listen to various leading radio stations from Israel and the world in various fields - sports, current affairs, culture, and more. RLive provides access to hundreds of radio stations with an emphasis on an excellent user experience.

My Part

I was asked to re-design a fresh new version of the RLive app, with a revamped interface. I redesigned the app’s logo, icons, and branding colors. I made small changes to avoid creating user confusion given the fact that a big chunk of users is older. I focused on a better and simpler user interface.

Design Process

I started the design process by using the app to find kinks and knots that are needed to be solved. With my client's brief, I was pointed to the different reviews of users that will lead to effective changes. This is an ongoing project where I get continuous feedback from my client to adapt and change the product following regulation changes, new trends, etc.

Design & Prototyping

App's Bottom Menu

Introducing a menu that makes it easier to navigate through the app. Changing it from a top bar menu of
categories | top 25 | favorits
to the current menu that includes a profile to, later on, include a pay wall, and a search bar to allow free search with or without the use of categories.

Recommended navigation

Adding a new navigation option based on an algorithm monitoring the users’ favorite station as well as their location and other parameters.

Double icons | Dark mode

To make development easier I designed a dual-purpose set of icons that can be used both in light and dark mode.

Player New Elements

Additional options in the player allow the user to favor, share, time, and read more information about the station. For avid radio listeners.

Subscription

Up to this point, RLive was completely free to use. Ads were the revenue stream. Starting a subscription model gives the daily users the option to listen to the radio without additional ads, use a timer, and find new stations based on the user’s location.

Stations map

A new paywall was introduced to the app user, alongside additional benefits such as a timer and ad blocker. A map of the location and the stations surrounding the user was designed to provide additional value to the user.

Branding

I was asked to design branding elements for the project.
Logo, iconography, screenshots, banner for Google Play and app store, and web advertisement.
redesign the existing logo. removing round-edged for a sleek look while keeping the over all known logo.
Custom flat category icons designed suted for both dark and light modes.
illustrations designed to use throughout the app if needed.

For The Web

Plug-In Player

I was requested to design a web browser extension player. An extension to the Google Chrome browser will allow users to listen to radio stations from the website without having to stay on the page, given that a user has installed the plugin. The entrance to the website will be for the purpose of selecting radio stations.

Plug-In Goals

Direct Traffic

Increasing the direct traffic to the site.

Plug-In Visitors

Increasing the number of visits to the website by listening through the plugin

Listening Time

Increasing the duration of listening to radio stations through the site

Plug-In Design

the plug-in design is simple and easy to operate. Suitable and inclusive for a wide audience. A design that includes extensive control over the options available on the website more easily. Continuation of the existing design style on the site.

RLive Website

After the establishment of the Hotcast subsidiary application, it was necessary to insert the podcasts into the Radio Live website as well. A podcast page and an episode page were needed (example below).
The design is a combination of elements from the app and the current aesthetics of the site. Beyond that, there was a need to design the radio station pages and station family pages.
