About Hotcast

Hotcast is the first podcast app in Israel that centralizes thousands of podcast programs under one umbrella. The application was developed and designed in Israel, so that the language and content were precisely adapted to the Israeli listener.

My Part

With the popularity of podcast listening on the rise, I was asked to design an app that is marketed to the Israeli audience and contains Hebrew-speaking podcasts. This app is a daughter app of the radio app RLive. With that being said One of my goals was to make them as similar in usage and design as possible.

Design Process

my design process was guided by a few parameters. I started with an extensive competitive analysis, and defined the users as Israeli android users, which are mostly derived from the rlive app. I wanted to keep the design sleek and easy to use with clear navigation.

App's Bottom Menu

The app’s menu is divided into 3 categories.
The user can search, add, and make playlists using the search, top podcasts, and my podcasts tabs.

Top Podcasts

The top podcast screen shows the listener the top 10 hottest podcasts around.
This section also divides the top podcasts into different categories-economy, sports, etc

Search

In the Menu bar there’s a search icon where the listener can search by a free word or by category.

Podcast Page

Each podcast has its own page where the listener can see all the episodes, can favor them, can follow them, can read what the podcast is about and what is talked about in each of the episodes.

My Podcasts

The listeners have the option to follow as many podcasts as they want, to favor specific episodes so they can both share them and add them to a playlist.

Podcasts Player

The player is dark so it doesn’t interrupt while listening. the player gives the listener the option to share the podcast and favor the episode, to rewind backward and forward, and to pause whenever they want. The player has a section that contains a brief explanation about the episode, the length of the episode, and the date it was published at.

the user can favor and share the episode as well as time the end while trying to fall asleep.

Queue

To make sure the user doesn’t miss any episodes of his favorite podcast, the user can create a playlist, rearrange the order and have total control over the listening experience.

Branding

as part of the project, I was asked to design branding elements.
Logo, screenshots, banner for Google Play, web advertisement, and an informative landing page.
Simple and trendy gradient flat logo design
Background template to use throughout the web
Custom flat category icons design
Fireball element design to use throughout the web

Advertisment

I designed banners and ads of different sizes to advertise the app around the internet. The goal was to draw attention to the ad with the help of existing elements and push for downloads.
